Southern PA
I am a believer in JD break-in oil. Use it for the first 100 hours, and then change it to what you plan to normally use IF the tractor seems to be broke in well. Example.... Normal amount of blowby, no oil consumption issues, etc. If you notice anything like excessive blowby, or oil consumption, change the break-in oil and filter, but use break-in oil for another 100 hours instead of using your normal oil.

This is what we've recommended to overhaul customers for years, and we haven't had issues.

During the break-in period, do avoid excessive idling. If you're hauling manure, it's okay to let it run while you're loading the spreader if it only takes several minutes. Just bump the idle up to 1200 or so, no slow idling. Make sure the engine maintains operating temp, bad thermostats, etc. can lead to an engine running cold. You don't want that anytime, and especially not during break-in.

ETA.

As was already mentioned, several hours on a dyno (if done properly) goes a good way to giving you a decent initial break-in.

Bottom line, keep your cylinder temps up during the break-in period. No prolonged idling etc., which leads to cool cylinder temps.
