Southern Illinois | Neighbor has a 2140 planter that has some very weird issues going on. Over the winter the main frame lift cylinders were rebuilt because they leaked down. messed with the planter in the shop and in the yard and didn't notice anything wrong. Went to the field today and here is what it does.
Unfold the planter and get everything turned on to plant. It has deltaforce, hyd air compressor and wing down force. Wing down force is set at 600 (tried 900 and didn't help), delta force 125 lb. up/down remote is being ran in the down position. The first lower to plant works normal, the first raise is normal. On half mile rows the wing wheels will start to creep up. Sometimes the right, sometimes the left. Then when you get to the end, after they have crept up a couple inches, the main bar will only lift until the wing wheels max out and then it will stop. If you lower and raise 3-4 times without moving, the center of the planter will no longer come up it stays on the ground. Only the wing wheels raise up and the wings move, the center doesn't even flinch.
Switch the frame to fold and raise the toolbar and wing wheels all the way up to the fold position and then switch to unfold and plant and it starts the cycle over again. once you switch to fold the bar raises just fine. We swapped remotes and hose directions.
Just for diagnosis I raised the bar all the way up and went to fold so I could operate the wing wheels up and down to see how they acted. The left one operated normally. THe right one was slow, it would be about 4 inches of rod showing when the left one was closed all the way, then it would go slow the rest of the way. This was somewhat repeatable, but occasionally it would go the same speed and the cylinder would close at the same time as the right.
We tried making passes with wing down force off, on, up/down remote in float, neutral, down. In the pro 700 diagnostics all of the frame related parameters were normal. We did several frame calibrations. Tried bleeding air out of the wing wheels, there was some and that helped a little but not really.
We are trying to get a schematic of the frame control valve under the seed hopper so we can maybe switch some hoses or solenoids around. My thoughts are either an internal crack in the valve body that is letting pressure jump circuits, or a solenoid is plugged/not fully opening or closing.
We are stumped, and it happened late in the day and the store was closed. Anyone ever seen anything like this or have a direction for us to look.
We went to the local dealers planter clinic this spring and they mentioned a balance valve somewhere on the planter that causes issues maybe in the wing wheels, I cannot remember what they said. He is calling the tech that taught us this spring in the morning.
Thanks for reading. If you have more questions I will do my best to answer. To be honest it wasnt a real repeatable problem. | |
