Subject: Roosa-Master injection pump -- can someone confirm this part orientation?

Madison Co. Virginia
I'm not sure if I dropped these inlet valve components when tinkering with the pump, if my friend did in his earlier tinkering, or if they weren't in there at all. Regardless, I ordered the three parts shown just below that inlet screen. The man I ordered parts from said to drive in and stake that little ring in the end of the valve housing to permanently retain the plunger and spring, but I neglected to ask him which direction the spring and plunger were supposed to go.

I'm a little puzzled by even how this valve works or what it does. There's a small orifice directly above the valve chamber, between the valve and the inlet tube. None of the diagrams online showed a breakdown of this style of endplate.

Do I orient the parts like shown here, or should the spring and plunger be inverted from shown?
