We learned today that at least one person with authority in our county does not feel that it is acceptable to haul scrap iron with a tractor and wagon. Grain, hay, dirt, gravel, even machinery is all fine but scrap iron is commercial and we must use a licensed vehicle to haul it going forward.

We are fighting this one because that’s not how I read the NY traffic regulations related to farm equipment. We are allowed to haul “farm supplies” to or from the farm and scrap iron is just worn out game supplies.

This is local - township level, not state

Anyone else ever run into something like this?

Who said you were hauling scrap?

Its farm supplies and equipment. Perfectly good steel and parts equipment.
