We often skip the ceremony and show up for the reception when we are not super close with the family as it is about the only way we can make it work with cattle chores. I have been to a couple for close friends where we left right after the ceremony to head home for chores and showed up a reception just in time to be the last one thru the line. Also been to a few where we hit the drive thru because we would not get there in time, only to arrive and find everyone waiting for the wedding party to arrive yet. People were grumpy because it was past 8pm and they had been there since 5 and no food; that is why I instructed the caterer at ours to serve food at 6:30 whether or not we were there.
