nw NC | It will not surprise me that the boom in construction of data centers will soon cause a glut of space available for that use. I wonder if much of the boom is based on speculation that, if it is built, it will be leased to someone who may need it. It might become like retail space that is built on a speculative basis. Developer builds it hoping to lease it to retailers, some come, operate for a while, can't make a go of it and then shut down operation. Lots of space in strip malls around here is vacant. Same way in big city shopping malls. Why would data centers not be the same way? I mean, how much more computing equipment and servers or other electronic devices are needed? Who is going to own and operate all that data equipment in these new centers? Is there a shortage of space now for current data storage needs causing the boom in new building?
