Unfortunately, in this day and age your work ethic and how you intend to treat the land will take a back seat to the almighty dollar. At least that’s the way landlords are around here.
Several landowners are 3rd generation removed from the farm…so soil health and weed control and erosion control mean nothing to them.
I have no advice for you other than don’t give up on your dream.
When talking to landlords, start the conversation with “I don’t want to step on any toes, but if the opportunity would ever come…”
Then again, that’s how I start the conversation, and I’ve only lost acres in the last few years… so probably shouldn’t take advice from me…
I’ll hang up and listen to others who have better ideas.
