I'm a Red Angus guy, but I was looking thru that catalog and watched that bull sell on dvauction. Just wondering why they don't sell more of those F1 bulls like that? And what is the advantage of horned hereford over polled?
If you breed horned hereford bulls to straight black angus cows, do you get very many horns?
I think they have thought about selling F-1 bulls to compete with the Black Hereford. Several Black Hereford breeders have bought true F-1 females from them over the years to use as foundation females. They use the Registered females that fall out of their Angus and Hereford herds to produce the F-1's. So technically the ''culls', but they set the bar so high that their culls are better than a lot of cattle out there.
I think they will sell more F-1 bulls now.
If you want to know why Horned Hereford over Polled Hereford the short answer is they are better. Call the Oleen's up and they can give you more details.
Breeding a Horned Hereford to a true Angus you will not get any Horns because the Angus is Polled and Polled is dominant. |
