| Check with the fire chief or fire marshal, as they should be familiar with the process. Several years ago we had a neighbor light his trash barrel on a red flag day in April, then leave for town. A spark got out and started his lawn and shelterbelt on fire, then spread into our pasture, which hadn't been grazed the previous year and was knee-high dead grass. The wind was howling and we had 30' flames that flew across the pasture, barely missing the house, shed, and barn. The chief of the rural fire department contacted us and wanted to know the value (including our time) of everything that had been affected. The chief was majorly POd that the guy had burned garbage on a red flag day, and wanted to stick it to him, along with the civil penalties for violating the burn ban. I hope you have someone equally as helpful. | |
