Yup, definitely the tower operator's mistake. I agree, the driver should have double checked but he followed procedure and repeated everything back. First thing I noticed was that the rest of the vehicles stopped way back.

Like some others said, not really blaming the tower because I don't know the whole story. He definitely tried to stop them once he realized what was happening. But they may not have heard him. Not real quiet in those trucks.

I've been a firefighter on an airport for over 35 years, and I've seen some close calls. That one made me jump to watch it.

I have been quite fortunate and experienced a lot of interesting stuff. The airport is only part of our responsibility. But I’m not here to brag. I know how lucky I’ve been.
