E.Central MN | The Post Office says that the high volume of presorted junk mail actually subsidizes the rest of the mail. And if they raise the rates, the junk mail senders would pay someone else to deliver it. To me that says that the Post Office can't afford to deliver mail on their current schedule at these prices. So what schedule would work for the Post Office if junk mail was discontinued? Maybe mail delivery has to be cut back to 3 days/week and shorten the routes in order for the mailmen to handle the extra load from every other day delivery and give the junk mail business to somebody else. From the vehicles I see the rural carriers using, they'd be better off delivering more mail/stop on a route that was shortened to allow for every other day schedule. I just think something must be done to save the mail service instead of bankrupting it in it's current form. which doesn't benefit anyone. | |
