E.Central MN | I think our schools should start worrying less about sports and worry more about why kids can't read or do simple math before they even start high school. Everything builds on having that necessary foundation for learning and without that it becomes impossible for them to catch up. Yes the parents have a responsibility in making sure their kids learn the basics of reading comprehension and simple math, but the teachers are the ones that should be able to see it first hand. We can't expect that every child will learn trig and calculous, but we should demand that they have a certain level of skills that they will need the rest of their lives. | |
