One of the "pluses" for early plant beans in this area (NE IL) is that it allows you to get going on field work when it may be dry, yet still cool. I believe it's been shown that beans laying in cold dirt can still germ at full strength weeks later. While corn sitting in cold dirt can start losing population. 

So, plant beans when it's cold, wait for it to warm to plant corn.
