Subject: RE: Question for someone who grows potatoes

Wisconsin
I don't know if organic matter would be high or lower after a year of potatoes? They keep them very clean and there's not much dry matter in the tubers themselves, or the vines compared to corn or most crops. They should have been well fertilized, but I couldn't tell you how well that carries over. The obvious issue is if the ground was covered with snow and you didn't get a hard freeze deep enough, all those potatoes will come right up. I don't know the chemistry to kill them. I would not assume tillage would kill them easily, a potato won't dry out sitting in the sun and will re root forever.
