North Central Indiana | Maybe I’m wrong, but I’ve never varied my gpa of carrier by how fast I want to drive. That seems like a bad idea. Sure I could drive 100 mph theoretically if I used a low enough rate. Is that a good idea? Not at all. Always set your rate by the label for good coverage then figure out what tips you need to apply that at the speed you want.
Why do I not spray at 16 or 20 mph when I could? Because it’s easier on everything when I do it at 12 or 13 and I still cover a bunch of ground quick. Suspensions on sprayers are impressive no doubt, but increased speed still means increased wear, less control, more ground covered while the boom is adjusting for height, etc.
As far as drift, I honestly do not know if it makes that much of a difference or not. I do know that if you watch your tips going back and forth across the field there is some difference in look of the spray depending on if you’re into the wind or with the wind. Does it change the placement or the drift by enough to make any difference? Guess I don’t feel the need to find out
Last point, dust. That’s a given and if I’m out there I want to do as good as I can getting coverage. Not as fast as I can to sound cool at the coffee shop or to hit the lake in the afternoon. Just my opinions
