| Ditto for north central IN as early beans have always yielded better. If ground conditions are fit and I see a pathway to 110 GDU's in quick fashion, we'll roll as early as late March. 75% of the time it has allowed us to take advantage of a premium at a bean oil plant in late August/early September (although not in the fall of 2025). Like farming, it's a gamble but spreading out the workload, getting that first few hundred acres in to see what needs fixed/tweaked and taking advantage of the summer solstice when flowering have won more than lost. We don't plant anything over 2.8's and try to be done with beans by the end of April outside of a late field needed for manure. | |
