West Central Iowa | Local Pioneer dealer pushs the beans planted first here also, I planted my corn @ the earliest date corn can be planted for crop insurance. We caught a windstorm in the summer and the late planted got nailed, my early planted corn had no damage. In the past it seems like most of the time we had wind damage, It has been on the late planted corn.
That being said, I planted my corn first because, I don't have any dryers, and 1/2 my corn has to go to ethanol plant @ harvest, so planting first allows me to plant all long season corn.
I agree early planted beans are usually the best, and when Ive had my best yields, they've always been April planted. but sometimes they are the worst, if the rains come the wrong way. I've had my replant beans be my best beans.
I would like to have the ability to plant corn and beans @ the same time, but that's not going to happen for me. | |
