SE Iowa | A guy at my church and I have had this conversation before and here were our thoughts right or wrong.
No till was best at holding heat in especially when windy during the frost event. It also was beneficial when the sun didn’t come out immediately the next day but…
Full tillage actually did better when the ground was already super warm, the air was calm, and the sun came out immediately the next day. The loose soil allowed the warm air to escape around the plant protecting it without freezing the ground and warmed up quicker the next day preventing further injury. If it’s windy then that escaping heat is wasted too quickly and no till is back to the advantage.
Just our thoughts - not scientific or anything:) | |
