Wouldn't it be easier just to put that person on the planter for that first pass?

Reminds me of testing a Challenger MT875C prototype at the Caterpillar Proving Grounds. Had personally jumped through all the corporate hoops to purchase an 11-shank disk ripper for drawbar load development and testing. Hopped in to drive the tractor and had a young engineer in the buddy seat. Dropped the ripper in the ground and proceeded to perfectly run the perimeter of the field edge. The young engineer asked me how I was able to do that perfectly the first time. Didn't have a good answer other than hours and hours of experience.

Doesn't matter if the implement is 8' or 60' wide, one just does the background brain calculation. Not sure how to teach that innate skill other than by doing. For a planter, suggest making a pass without seed dropping and get a feel for it by slowly moving closer and closer to the edge. It is obviously easier to get a feel for it on long straight sections.
