Here we no till, dont get much of a crop the first year but the next year its ready to go. We use sunflowers, beans or canola, anything we can get a good grass kill. We've quit beans so the last few we have done we used flowers, seeded really nice the following season. Every area is different but if we filled it deep or black it would be like powder and likely blow away....
