Near Intersection of I-35 & I-90 Southern Mn.
Again you are correct. Switching varieties in a planting configuration is possible without clearing the previous map.

Actually I have used that trait to advantage when using an Ag Leader display to mark tile lines. Here's how I did this.

Create a planting configuration for a narrow fake planter and a crop not normally grown in the area. I chose Peanuts. Create unique variety names for the peanuts such as Old Main, New 4 inch, New 10 inch, New Main 30 inch etc.

Then drive around with the combine, tractor or SxS with the Ag Leader equipment in it. Straddle the line in question and choose the proper peanut variety such as Old Main, turn on recording and drive the line. Use the screen icon to stop recording and change to a different peanut variety if necessary and repeat the process.

While driving around, a person could also make a rough hand drawn map and write down the Lat/Lon of some points of interest that might be useful in the future.

The maps could be processed and printed via SMS. The different peanut varieties (tile descriptions) would be shown in different colors along with a legend. The Lat/Lon of the special points could be hand written on the paper maps.

I have done this with a combine, tractor and SxS. The SxS would seem to be the logical choice but I found I actually prefer the combine. Since the equipment is already in the combine, I don't need to move it. The combine sets up high and is very stable and is much more comfortable to drive around in on rough ground.

The first time I did this was on a harvested commercial sweet corn field. GPS, monitors etc. were very new at the time. It did get the neighbors wondering what I was doing driving around a harvested field in my 7720 without a head on the combine.
