Subject: RE: NovAtel and Trimble

I have two tractors with different GPS signals that I would like to share lines and mapping in real time.

Tractor 1 is a 2018 Ch 738 with Trimble and Digifarm for RTK. I use an AL 1200 monitor to run the JD planter and Top Air sprayer. We run 20" rows with tram rows moved out about an inch to allow 16" tracks. We've been set up that way for a long time. GPS comes into tractor to steer the tractor then goes to the 1200 for location, no steering etc.

Tractor 2 is a 2020 Ch 743 with NovAtel. It has nothing else at this point. We want to use this tractor for top dressing urea with a pull type spreader. We spread litter in the fall with both tractors at the same time.

We want to be able to spray and top dress at the same time using the same lines and spread at the same time using the same lines.

AgCo folks tell us NovAtel and Trimble may not use the same "north", true north vs magnetic north. Is that true? If so, will that cause our lines to be slightly different even if we share them?

We will likely put Ag Leader in the 743 with some used components (1200, modem, maybe steering controller too).

At this point each tractor gets its GPS signal to steer the tractor which then feeds our monitors. It seems like there is an extra step that needs to be removed. We're not convinced Green Fit is the answer since the only green piece we have is the combine. The planter is green, but its components are all AL high speed.

Any advice is appreciated.

Simple answer, if you don't care which receiver, swap one of them to the other...it's very simple to do so, unbolt it, and change a pigtail, and plug in a different receiver. I have some of both manufacturers units, and to be honest, not a big deal to most people which they have, so I could trade you for the freight bill. If you wanted to get an RTK unlock or something else while swapping, we could definitely see what I could do there as well.

As far as if the lines will line up, I would bet they would but I have honestly never checked one combines that run in the same field with 2 different receivers.

You could definitely switch to Ag Leader steering as well if you don't mind buying the Ag Leader steering controller and an Ag Leader GPS.
