I think my parents did a good job. Older brother has the farmer gene (is very good at what he does) and my parents let him run the farm on halves since he was in his 40s. He and dad always "clicked" and they had decades working together. I spent the last two decades helping mom sweating in the sun in her gardens and cleaning chicken coop for "free" for at least a month a year but am blessed to still get yelled at by my 87 year old mom for doing it wrong. I married a hard working farm girl who became a doctor and I had a fun career in agronomy. We did fine. Might not be a farmer in the next generation though...
