To David: My comment was in answer to SLC's post talking about non-farming and uninvolved business heirs and especially the words "their due". My comment also refers to the situation in the WSJ article. Obviously there is no one-size-fits-all solution to passing on the farm. I feel for folks who want to be involved in the farm but can't. The difference there is the DESIRE to farm compared to uninvolved by choice. Folks who have worked hard to build the farm and WANT to stay but can't deserve a different solution. The WSJ article mentioned just one son who liked animals but chose a different path, otherwise no one wanted to take over the farm as it was currently operating. David, there are advisors who specialize in your type situation. They will be more help than this discussion about a specific WSJ article. Best of luck to you.
