The normal progression is:

to get rid of standard coins as they no longer will buy anything.

Create coins of larger denomination while doing away with small bills. For example make one, five and twenty dollar coins.

Add three zeros to the newly printed bills and call them "New Dollars".

At least that is what Mexico did. The New Peso. And others.

I'm hoping we don't get to that point in the next 20 years. As you move up the parabolic curve the time element speeds up towards the "moment of truth".


Everything is pushing away from untraceable cash to digital transactions, this is yet another enabler. If you need $500 to fill up your gas tank and $2000 to buy groceries and the largest bill is a $100 (which nobody will take), instead of carrying around tons of paper it will push everyone into using cards and digital payments. Which is exactly what is desired anyhow.
