NW Washington | It is in the Equisetum family, an ancient weed that has been around since the dinosaurs roamed the Earth. It has no leaves and it is spread by spores and underground rhizomes.
Most herbicides have little effect on it or just knock it down temporarily. It is favored by no-till and moisture. And this subject comes up here on NAT several times every year.
Horsetail is our local name for it, but it has many other local common names.
There are other members of this weed family that are bigger.
So, good luck trying to control this PITA weed.
