Thank you for your estimate of time on pivot maintenance. That is the lowest estimate of time I have had. At least 4 farmers have told me that they spend more time than that, so I was using 20 hours a week to run the 11 small pivots that the board of the HOA is recommending. I know 11 pivots sounds like a lot, but we have nine fields (well 10 if we count the one we are only watering intermittently). And some of the fields are long (our longest is about 1200 feet long by 500 feet wide. So those long fields will get two pivots each.
Do you think your numbers will hold having that many small fields and small pivots?
Also, what does maintenance look like? I imagine that the nozzles need to be cleaned, maybe there are filters to clean? Do tires go flat? Anything helps. | |
