What else is coming out during regen? Soot being burned out of the DPF isn't fairy dust
An atomized diesel particle that’s partially burned is black carbon known as soot. The closer to TDC the injection event, the less time for burn and more smoke. During regen the carbon is oxidized with heat, up to 1200F, and turned into ash that falls to the ground. FYI, soot falls to ground eventually also once air currents allow it to.
An atomized diesel particle that’s burned more efficiently with timing BTDC enough will cause more oxides of nitrogen to be produced. When the sensors have reached a threshold the controller introduces NH3 in mist form to bond to the NOx to N2 and h2o. This needs heat to happen also.
NH3 dosing occurs without regen occurring.
Also soot and NOx are the only things the globalist greenies are concerned with currently. They will come up with something else to monitor eventually.
