Doesn’t answer your question but a few car dealerships I buy from when they take a trade in and it isn’t relatively newish or if it has a lot of miles it goes straight to the auction they don’t even try and sell it. Another dealership I know they also own another dealership with a different name in a different small town where many of their well used cars go, those are the ones more in my price range.
Another little dealership I deal with everything they have comes from auctions. He told me if looking for something let him know and he will see if he can find it. I haven’t done that yet. Seems like a lot of little used dealerships around and they must be getting them from auctions.
I usually look over the inventory at a couple of local dealerships a couple times a week and read the free Car Fax report mainly to check accident history.
Not unusual to see that the vehicle has been through a dealer auction, mileage varies, but I'm guessing most are in the 30-80,000 mile range.
Edit: guessing 50% have been involved in an accident.
