central - east central Minnesota - | tractordoc1979 - 1/30/2026 21:44 New Holland LS170 engine died in the middle of the road. Is there a way to bypass the hydrostatic motors so unit can be towed slowly just to get it off the road? Have not found any bypass valves so far in TM or Operator's manual. Generally, they are light enough to simply drag off the path or up onto a trailer. If the surface is at all slick, can drag them a long way ( grass, wet, snow) with no concern for damage. Seen a guy drag one up onto a stone boat (flat metal plate) and drag it the rest of its way to his farm. You can pick them up with a loader and longer pallet forks if you have access to them. 3 pt hitch can lift from behind and drag on the bucket across dirt field . . . .. . Basically, as long as the wheels do not turn and hydraulic motors turn, no damage will result. Except, if you drag it far enough to put flat spots in the rubber tires . . . .
