A couple things to consider:

You state that you're combining corn out of the field at 13.5 - 16 % moisture. If you had a dryer, maybe you could plant longer season corn and increase yields. Also less chance of getting caught dealing with wet corn during a cool growing season. You have more control over harvest. There's also the head shelling losses others have mentioned.

Another thought is to reconsider doing this all at once. Slow and steady growth/building of your grain system can be planned to mitigate income taxes. Build in the good years and coast in the bad years. You also might want to have a million or two dollars available [credit or cash] when that farm comes up for sale next door. It also gives time to adjust your plans. I'm guessing most farmer's operations are not exactly the same as they had imagined they would be 20-30 years ago. Things change over decades.

Our bins and dryers have all paid for themselves within a few years. Sometimes you can really hit a home run.
