Subject: RE: New bin setup ROI

dubuque, ia
We have never regretted a bin project, that being said we haven't built one for 8 years so price has changed significantly. That being said I would like to add another 100k or 125k bin in the next few years. Harvest efficiency, pick up some basis gain even just storing until Dec. Currently with being short some storage and not being able to keep dry corn hauled out of the bin I have to manage corn maturity and plant more short season corn than I like, and that costs bushels say 7 out of 10 years. Lots of things to think about, I'd drive myself crazy if I had to wait for 16% corn to start combining, and some years we wouldn't be combining any corn until spring if that was the case. If I was in your shoes I would maybe think about trying to get enough of a binsite and dryer to fire up the combine on some 25% corn, drying corn is pretty cost effective, especially early in the fall when ambient temp is warm yet.
