No, you cannot just simply apply a humic acid or a gypsum product and later that summer have no compaction. Don't get me wrong. I love both products and use both products but them are long-term amendments, maintenance type things

You also have a salt or saline issue. Your tillage is not allowing the water to take the salts down. Believe it or not, When you do tillage, you're actually bringing the water and salt up, the water evaporates leaving the salts. The more you work a saline area the worse it's going to get.
The kochia moves in and takes over because you just built a soil he can thrive in and your crop can't

There is two elements to compaction. One, compaction is a symptom of not supporting the biology in the soil

The other element is we need to make a living and sometimes That means we're going to be out there when we probably shouldn't

Residue on the surface is the first line of defense against compaction. When a load hits the surface of the soil, its weight gets distributed across the residue and the residue has somewhat of a sponge and bridging effect.

Living in dead roots in the soil as well as soil. Having structure of airspace is the next line of defense against compaction.
The airspaces and the roots and any buried residue can be crushed when the load is applied and then when the load leaves they can kind of spring back out.. but since they crushed they absorb some of the load, allowed the soil to shift and move without being completely compacted.

Biology is going to build your soil structure your aggregates your airspace

I will put Lee's Facebook profile in a link. He is a world of knowledge and a fantastic resource for the North Dakota guys and anybody dealing with that similar saline issues
