South-central Nebraska | I've been broadcast, mostly no-till with some coulter strip till on my coc for years.
With heavy residue, I see very little wash/run off of broadcast nutrients. One could do heavy tillage but heavy rain will just wash more soil and fertilizer that way. Or, if on slopes the strips and fertilizer will wash out.
I tried stripping P but saw zero yield difference from broadcast, but my P and K levels are high.
My strip till coc is done with a coulter machine 4-5" deep. I only make strips on relatively flat ground. Clay can be a problem in the spring if stripped when too wet, even with coulters. It can ribbon and make clods that may not break down by planting time. | |
