You've ran into the same issue as budget passenger airlines do that try to be transparent in their pricing and give customers a choice of how much they want to spend to fly from point A to B for the least cost possible.
Just charge $$$/hour and tell him he gets "free" travel to the job site and phone/text support included in the price.
