Subject: RE: Storing soybeans and pod problems

Just north of I-90 in SW MN
How big of a bin are we talking about here?

The soybean bin here is a Behlen 13x13 meter bin(56,000 bushels). In the fifth ring we have a side-draw in it and about half the soybeans go out without turning on an auger. The next 25% go out another side draw that is next to the man door. Both side draws have let-down ladders inside so the bin doesn't kink. Also this bin is a inside stiffened bin. Have used this bin since 2003 like this and have had few problems with the pods.

Also have a small 7500 bushel bin that we store soybeans in also. This has the side draw next to the door and can get a good chunk of the soybeans out.

If you are storing soybeans at home a must IMO is to have some sort of bin fan controller that can keep your soybeans in that 12-13% moisture range. Have a Sentry-PAC 2 channel for our bins. Interesting thing is that the fans will light up right before the weather front comes in. Have had ZERO problems with grain being out of conditions. I do run the fans manually for 20 days before letting the controller take over so that the soybeans are cooled down some.
