As sick as it sounds this is how some people process tragedy/trauma.
This is their outlet for relief.
I have a coworker that was standing in the river bank waiting on the recovery of his cousin that was involved in a canoe accident and he was doing the same thing. He said later that he felt terrible but it was that or flip his lid.
