Yes. But in my example we aren't inheriting it. It's not being "split". We merely have an interest while we are alive and if we don't have heirs our share would return to the family pool. The biggest reason I want things to be equal is because of the grandkids (and great grandkids). It seems as everyone only considers the first generation. Even if you felt like treating one of your kids better the consequence is those grandkids are also treated better vs. your other grandkids. Eventually (and we all have examples of this nearby I bet) one kid's family is extremely wealthy and his nieces and nephews are slaving away working for minimum wage until they are 70. Why does my daughter deserve a better start to life than my nieces?

Once again I am from a small family that only reproduces every 30-35 years. If a family is kicking out a new generation of 6 kids per branch every 20 years it can get crazy in a hurry.

If I was in JR's father's shoes I think I would like to get my daughter's a little something extra right now knowing they won't have kids and grandkids to maybe reap the rewards many years down the road.
