| I have seen both sides of the "fair isn't equal and equal isn't fair" scenario.
Fair isn't equal:
Left more land to the farming party than the rest and gave the best case scenario to the farming party to buy out the others. Other parties aren't happy with the stipulations and feel they got shorted
Equal isn't fair:
Everybody got the same amount evenly distributed across all acres. Other parties wanted to cash in almost instantly and farming party had to figure how to do it. No set price or anything, just come to an agreement or everybody sells.
In the end, both scenarios barely anybody talks to anyone and families are pretty well split up with distaste towards one or the other.
My take from it all, talk to your family and give EVERYONE a vote on what they think should happen. You don't have to count their vote if you don't want to, but at least everyone had an idea where each other stands and what they want. Some want an investment and some want a paycheck.
