midwest | Because they know they have a captive customer, they have everybody tied up and they know small business cannot work on them without software they won't let us have. At least not for an affordable price, so up up and away goes the price. Not much available in salvage yards yet, all factored in. You can buy OH kit for 400 series around a grand, OH for $10k with labor at small shop if its just tired, no reason but corporate greed for a reman engine to be $50-100K. Cars headed that way too now. Very good auto place here locally told me now the new vehicles need manufacturer specific software that each maker will charge them. Days are numbered for little shop there too. All by design. Just think of the fuel that could be saved if all the crap was off and the engine was timed to run efficiently. We as a nation are burning way more fuel and resources than needed and cold be a pretty clean burn still without all the hoopla. Fuel injection, compression and timing could accomplish this on MOST engines. | |
