Pittsburg, Kansas | The majority of silver produced from mines comes as a byproduct of other mining operations.
We toured a copper mine in the southwest. I don't remember the percentage but after they used electrolysis to plate the anodes with copper to extract it, the sludge left over they processed and got a small percentage of silver.
Been too many years to remember details, but something over half the silver mined is a byproduct and doesn't make much influence on mining decisions. It just pays some of the bills as they mine the main ore.
