Agree KB, completely different life style today and expectations. Cell phones, cable, health insurance, property taxes and insurance, SUV’s ( not 4 door sedans) kids designer clothes, list goes on and on. Wasn’t very common for a family to have more than 1 vehicle until the 70’s. This isn’t affecting farmers, this is hitting our whole society. What is considered “normal” today was considered very abnormal very recently at least in my lifetime. Read a comment about how housing has outpaced incomes. Problem is that avg house is now close to 2500 sq ft with fancy countertops and multiple bathrooms. Compare that to under a 1000 sq ft avg home in the 60’s. They couldn’t afford a 2020 home than either. I am old enough to remember $1 corn and 2.75 beans and as a whole agriculture has always difficult with a few periods of great prosperity and a lot of longer term down or just exist periods in between.
