You can ask that same question about any hybrid. Few years back I had a field split (half planter to each hybrid) with a "top of the line" expensive hybrid from one of the major seed companies side by side with a much cheaper conventional hybrid from a small company.
The expensive hybrid needed to out yield the cheaper one by ~15 bpa just to break even on the increased seed expense. Unfortunately, that expensive hybrid did not live up to expectations and ended up getting beat by ~30 bpa across the field. So in reality, the cheaper seed was ~$180/acre more profitable in that side by side comparison.
Now that was only a comparison of 2 hybrids in one field, one year, but the point is, even the major companies put out seed that doesn't always live up to expectations. The "top of the line" expensive seed from the major company got its butt kicked by the "top of the line" from the little company.
We've had other examples of a "top of the line" hybrid not performing well in a side by side comparison but the one above is the one that will forever be stuck in my mind because of the $'s.
