Very very few other businesses see their means of production as an asset. They view it as a cost that needs to be minimized or at least only spend enough on it to maximize their return.


I see this brought up a lot. The problem is the one big nuance when comparing farmland to other business' principles is yes the land is primary driver of production, however its in limited supply. Especially in NA where there essentially is no more being made. It would be like the government (or whoever) shutting down Boeing and the like and outlawing any new aircraft to be made. The machines that are out there are what you have to bid on to produce revenue. Not a perfect analogy, but closer.

Edit: another thought. McDonald's certainly doesnt think the way you mentioned, at least not exactly. I forget if it was Ray Croc himself or one of the other figureheads that was quoted as saying McDonald's is a real estate company that happens to be in the restaurant business. Or something along those lines. Dont quote me, but I think Walgreens has a similar philosophy. Im sure there are others.
