I suggest that you get a contractor’s chalk: about size & shape of a half-golf ball: rub the file with it before use. The chalk helps to keep filings from lodging tight in groves. It helps also to have a file brush on hand -used to clean the groves. Keep files in oil cloth or whatever it takes to keep them from rust: their worst enemy.
