Middlesex County, Ontario | For ditch/snow recoveries I think the 20' rope is plenty long. Any longer and I think it'd be hard to get enough angle to help get them back onto the road. The 20' rope combined with the 20' strap gives you lots of options. You can go out to 40' total, or double up the strap at the end of the rope for 30' total, double up the rope or strap on it's own for 10', use the strap as a bridle off both tow hooks, do a team pull, etc.
The recovery rope diameter has to match the vehicle weights to stretch properly. 3/4" or 7/8" is about right for pickups. My 7/8" tag says max vehicle weight 11,000 lbs, and I think you get to go off the lightest of the 2 vehicles, so about 110 horsepower tractor? I think you'd want to be at 30' or 40' long for a muddy farm recovery just to get the pulling vehicle far enough away from the mud, and you may want a larger diameter also.
I was at the new Princess Auto off Clark road the other day and saw they had a 7/8" 20' kinetic rope for $40. |
