I'm not so sure I fully agree. While government certainly presses their thumb on the scale. Acres are still managed by individuals and we are completely free to do with those acres as we see fit.

It actually confirms we are in a capitalistic environment with the beef. If prices get "to high" it then makes economic sense to import our needs to bring price back into equilibrium with demand. I guess it comes down to a discussion of free trade/ global trade. Plenty of pieces to the puzzle.
