I feel I am. We have seperate entities and ventures but work together when we can….and hopefully share costs?
About the stress and responsibility…..a story that comes to mind, happened in Apr, Trumps first round of tariffs. We have our separate cattle. Right at that moment of the market shock of tariffs, with the board dropping, we were both uncovered. Hauling grain but myself, my wife and son had a little pow wow on how we wanted to play this. I said I wanted to ride it out, at least for awhile. My wife, who works off, besides working her *** off on the farm make the comment, her off farm wage could disappear, in cattle, in minutes with this stuff. I look at my son…..he has a deer in headlights look and says “ I can’t afford to take a loss”
We called and hedged our cattle right there. It still is a profit, albeit not what could’ve been. Also no loss…..so we all sleep better at night.
Just a tip of the iceberg on stress…..
Mik, maybe I told you this already, can’t remember, but your neighbor comes here last few springs with other friends shed hunting. He spoke highly of you both, and commented particularly how hard your wife works. He had a lot of respect.
