Yup that is stressful. Even at my age and somewhat well healed I made the decision many years ago to quit filling every corner of the home place with feeder cattle. There was too much volatility and the dollars to buy them had essentially doubled and the thought of doing it every year and hopefully making more than I lost wasn't that appealing anymore. It was getting to the point of possibly eating into the gains and accomplishments I had made. Too risky for my blood to put it simply. So I concentrated on a cow herd and feeding only those calves and the stress went down. Due to drought and not having the desire or time to fix up every smaller pasture fence to hold cows, my herd has dwindled significantly, but it doesn't stress me out like the couple months between buying and selling claves did.

I hope you come out on top and maybe everyone learns from this and you find ways to make money but also mitigate the type of risk that makes you sick to your stomach.
