southern MN | The airplanes fly by themselves, I know the tractors can drive themselves.
Monitoring the fields and equipment for debris, washouts, broken parts, and thrn deciding what to do about it is going to be the issue. The unexpected. Do we shut down and wait for someone to come every time?
Currently the YouTube demos I have seen some wind and dust will shut them down. I guess if you farm where it is never dusty it works fine? Can they solve for dust?
Then more complex, more sensors, more computers, more electrical and more hydraulic. More, many more break downs or fault codes just because there are so many more parts. Can the dealers keep up with parts and techs chasing down all the machines parked throwing codes?
Will be a lot of idle time and putting out fires, end up might as well be a dummy in the seat.
Not disagreeing it can be done, but will the results be worth the cost. Replacing a driver/ operator saves a few bucks an hour, but removing a pair of hands and an over ride decision maker means a lot more idle hours and expensive labor repairs.
